• The Department of Sociology
was established on 1981. 
• Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidlaya,
the degree level college was
established in the year 1981.
The college has at Present nine
Departments including
Sociology.
• The subjects Sociology was
introduced from the very
beginning i.e. from 1981.
• The major course was
introduced from the academic
session 1998-99. • Over the years, the Department
of Sociology has been served by
number of distinguished
teachers namely Bhodeswar
Borah, Dr Ashini Borah, Mridul
Borah, Dr Probhas Borah Sneha
Lota Gogoi and Charuma
Bhorali who excelled in Many
other fields also.

Vision & Mission

The Sociology Department is a diverse, student centered learning community engaged in critical social inquiry dedicated to extending knowledge to enrich and enliven individual and public life. 
We are dedicated to the production, critical examination, diffusion and application of social knowledge in its many forms. As teachers, we introduce our students to theories about the social world, help them to think critically about those theories while training them in research techniques with which those theories can be applied and tested.

Deg. I Arts : Sociology
Deg. II Arts : Sociology
Deg.III Arts : Sociology
Semester system, introduced from 2011-2012.
1st Year : 1st and 2nd Semester
2nd year : 3rd and 4th Semester
3rd year : 5th and 6th Semester
CBCS system was introduced from 19-20 academic session.
