About the Department

The department of Chemistry Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya was established in the academic year 1992 with the Higher
Secondary Section. Later in the academic year 1995 the undergraduate course was introduced. The major/honours course in B.Sc semester was introduced in the academic year 2011. In due course of time the department had developed to a fully fledged department with both major and non major
and honours/Generic in the B.Sc semester (non CBCS and CBCS) system along with higher secondary section. Though the department had been started from 1992 it was provincialised
recently with effect from 01/01/2021 after a long struggle. Currently four faculty members are rendering their service with full dedication.
The department was initially founded by the following members:
1. Ms Parinita Barua.
2. Ms Jyotisikha Bora.
3. Dr Jugal Hazarika.
4. Dr Partho P Baruah
The department has focused to ensure quality and progress of students. Assignments, seminars, group discussions, project works etc are arranged time to time among students. Class tests, remedial classes, mentoring and student centric learning activities have been done to bring out best among the students. Alumni of the department presently servicing in Oil India, ONGC, CSIR NEIST Jorhat, Assam Agriculture University Directorate of Higher Education Govt Of Assam etc. Many students are pursuing Ph.D from Delhi University, Banarash Hindu University, NEIST , Dibrugrah University etc.

Vision & Mission

Vision: The chemistry department tries to help the students to adjust themselves with the changing world. The department also prepares the students to a chemically literate society through classroom teaching, laboratory work and project work.
Mission: The chemistry department provides the ways to the students to expertise themselves in various fields relating to chemistry. The faculties of the department have dedicated themselves to maintain a standard for subject knowledge, communication skills and professional behaviour.
