About the Library

      The Central Library of Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1981 with the very inception of the college itself to support its parent organization in carrying out its teaching learning programme effectively. Its main objective is to procure, organize, preserve. disseminate information in all fields of knowledge to serve the institutional, curricular, research needs of the college community. The Library has at present nearby 20000 printed books and subscription of 16 periodicals and 7 newspapers. The library is a member of e-ShodhSindhu consortium which provide access to E-Resources. It has its own repository of PhD Thesis, MPhil Dissertations, Minor and Major Research Project Reports, publications of the college, publications of the faculties, college magazines etc. It has a reading room with 50+ seating capacity. There is a separate reading room for the faculty members. The library is open from 9am to 4pm in all working days.

Library Services and Facilities

Document Circulation Service The users can use and borrow books on all working days from 9 am to 4 pm.


Reference Service : Every Library Staff tries to provide reference service to the users in a personal way by guiding them in getting the required book without any hindrance.


Current Awareness Service : As a part of Current Awareness Service, the recent arrivals are displayed on the display stand and also shared in respective whatsapp groups of students and teachers.  


Information Deployment and Notification: The general Information regarding library facilities are made available in the college prospectus, Academic Calendar and the college website. The current notifications are put up in the Library Notice Board and the College Notice Board. 


ILMS in the Library: The library is an automated one since 2015 with the leading software SOUL2.0 provided by INFLIBNET Centre. The library management software gives a user friendly interface for delivering timely services to the users under client-server environment.


Barcode Technology: Barcode-based attendance system for students are placed at the library entrance while visiting the library and also in circulating the books.  


Searching through OPAC: Since the library is fully automated, the holdings of the library can be searched using OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue).


Wi-Fi-based Library: The College Library is Wi-Fi based library. Library users can use the Wi-Fi service in the reading hall and in the digital library section. 


Digital Library Section: The library has a separate digital library section. 7 (Seven) computers have been installed in the library and all are connected to the internet. Along with these, a specific time from 2.30pm to 3.30pm is allotted in the computer lab for library use. 


Membership of E-Contents: The Library is a member of e-ShodhSindhu consortium which provide access to 6000+ e-journals, 1,99,500+ e-books under NList and 6,00,000+ e-books through National Digital Library of India (NDLI)


WhatsApp-based circulation: Students and faculty members of Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya are connected with the library through 3 (Three) WhatsApp Groups. All important information, notices, new arrival of books, etc. are shared in those groups

.

Reprographic and Printing Service : Students avail these facilities in the library in a nominal fee. 


User Orientation :  A User Orientation and Awareness Programme is done every year at the beginning of the new academic session to make the students aware of various library services and facilities.


Question Paper Facility : The students can consult previous year question papers in the library .They  get soft copies of the question papers also. 


Suggestion Box :   The library staff feel happy to get feedback from the users. So regular feedbacks are taken from the students. A suggestion box is also kept for getting suggestions for future improvement.

Library Rules

Library Rules :

1. The Library is meant for only the bonafied students of the college. However, the authority reserves the provision of permission to special users.

2. While borrowing books from the library, each student will have to produce his/her library card. A student is not entitled to borrow a book against the library card of others. If detected, he/she will be punished or fined.

 3. Students are not allowed to use the library without uniform.

 4. 03 books will be issued to each student, 08 books for teachers and 04 books for non-teaching staff.  Students will be entitled to keep books for fifteen days only from the date of issue and books must be returned to the library at the end of the period failing which fine of 2 rupee will be imposed. However, the students can reissue the books for another 7 days with the permission of the librarian.

5. Final year students must return their library books before getting the Admit Card of the final examination.

6. Strict silence and decorum should be observed in the library.

7. Rare books, reference books, periodicals, news paper are not allowed for home lending. Books & periodicals issued against the reading section card will be allowed to use in the library reading hall which will have to be returned at time of leaving.

 8. Books have to be replaced if lost or damaged. Students found mutilating library books or periodicals will be subject to disciplinary action.
