Promoting equality, inclusiveness, and the empowerment of all students through awareness, cultural harmony, and academic enrichment initiatives at Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya.
The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) at Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya is established in accordance with the objectives and guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to ensure equal access to educational opportunities for all students, regardless of caste, creed, gender, religion, or socio-economic background.
The Cell actively works towards fostering an inclusive academic environment by organizing awareness programmes, cultural events, and expert lectures that promote gender equality, social justice, cultural harmony, and national integration. Through these initiatives, the EOC strives to nurture critical thinking, mutual respect, and a sense of collective responsibility among the student community.
As part of its academic enrichment initiatives, the Department of Political Science, Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, organized a Special Online Lecture under its lecture series, “Building New Perspectives,” on 30th July 2025 via Google Meet. The lecture aimed to encourage interdisciplinary learning and critical engagement with contemporary social and cultural issues.
The lecture was delivered by Mr. Jyotishmoy Bora, Doctoral Research Scholar, Assam University, Silchar. The resource person provided valuable insights into the socio-religious philosophy of Srimanta Sankardev, highlighting the intersections of gender, caste, and spirituality within the Neo-Vaishnavite tradition of Assam. The session fostered meaningful discussions on inclusivity, social justice, and the relevance of Sankardev’s teachings in contemporary society.
Faculty members, students, and research scholars actively participated in the interactive session. The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks by Miss Udipta Borah, reaffirming the EO Cell and Department of Political Science’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, critical inquiry, and intellectual engagement.
The Equal Opportunity Cell, Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, organized the celebration of International Women’s Day 2025 on 8th March 2025 in the Academic Conference Hall. The programme was conducted under the theme “Accelerate Action for All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment” with the objective of creating awareness about gender equality and encouraging the active participation of women in all spheres of society.
The event featured an insightful keynote address by Dr. Pragyapriya Borah, Medical Officer (MBBS), who spoke on various aspects of women’s health, rights, empowerment, and the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls. The session emphasized the need to eliminate gender-based discrimination and foster an inclusive environment where every individual can realize their full potential.
Faculty members, students, and staff actively participated in the programme and engaged in meaningful discussions on issues related to gender equity, women’s leadership, and social empowerment.
As part of its initiatives to promote inclusiveness, cultural diversity, and mutual respect among students, the Equal Opportunity Cell of Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya organized a Cultural Dress Rally and Competition in the college campus on 30th December 2023. The programme was conducted with the objective of celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage and fostering appreciation for the diverse traditions, customs, and ethnic identities represented within the student community.
Students enthusiastically participated in the rally and competition by dressing in traditional attire representing different communities and regions of India. The colourful procession showcased the country’s unity in diversity and provided a vibrant platform for students to express pride in their cultural heritage while learning about the traditions of others.
Faculty members and students appreciated the creativity, confidence, and cultural representation displayed by the participants. The winners of the competition were recognized for their outstanding presentation and authentic representation of their respective cultures. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rajen Borah.
In observance of National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas), the Equal Opportunity Cell of Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya organized the Run for Unity programme on 31st October 2022 at 7:00 AM within the college campus. The event was conducted to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to promote the values of national integration, unity, and social harmony among students and staff.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff, who joined the unity run with great zeal and commitment. The event aimed to inspire participants to uphold the ideals of national unity, equality, and collective responsibility while fostering a sense of patriotism and mutual respect across diverse communities.
Before the commencement of the run, participants took the National Unity Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to preserving the unity, integrity, and security of the nation.
