About the Department

Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidayalaya was established in the year 1981 with following departments = English, Assamese, Political Science, History, Education, Sociology and Economics which were approved by the Governing Body held on 29th November 1981 to impart education at higher secondary level. The Management of the College established History as a subject in Degree-level from 1984-85 academic session and the Executive Council of the Dibrugarh University held on 30th January 1992 granted provisional affiliation for opening the department. The Department got permanent affiliation vide letter no. /D.U./R.G/ic/P- Affi./2000.( 16.02 .2000). Honours course was introduced in 1992.

The founding faculty members are the true pioneer and they include- Late Nagendra Nath Borah, Late Amioya Kr. Sarma, Mr. Ajit Kr Baruah, Mr. Jatin Konwar and Ms. Nibedita Baruah. At present there are four permanent faculties in the department. They have voluminous experience to their credit imparting quality education to students.

Vision & Mission

Vision: The department aims to make the student aware of the past and its legacies through teaching in Indian history in the context of world history. We think that only critical understanding of the past will enable the student to understand the present and help them took towards the future.

Mission: Empowered student to cope with challenges of globalization by instilling them a lifelong passion for learning about the past. Interconnection between the global, national, regional and local history will equip the students to face the challenges with confidence.
