About the Department
The Department of Education in Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya came into existence along with the establishment of the college in 1981 with the first batch of students in the Higher Secondary level. The UG course was introduced in the college from the academic session 1984-85. For six academic sessions since the establishment of degree-level in the college, Education remained a general subject for study. Honours course was introduced in 1989-1990. The founding faculty members of the department whose dedication and nurture lent a strong foundation to the department named late Karanda Narayan Baruah ex-principal and Sjt. Punyamoyee Neog were the founder teacher of the department of Education. Mrs. Bandana Kharghuria (1989), Mrs. Ranjumoni Saikia (1991) Late Anuradha Baruah (1991) Dr. Swapnali Borah (1995) and Dr. Pallabi Mali (2017). Nabajyoti Sarma (2018) joined as contractual teacher. At present there are four permanent faculty in the department. The department offers honours and non-honours courses in the regular mode at the UG level and UG level in the distance mode. Assignments, Seminars and group discussion are set in line with the academics. Remedial classes, peer learning, mentoring and student centric participatory learning attempt to bring out the best in the students.
